Launch Day Vibes and Modern Marvels
Let me start by saying this: when Norwegian Cruise Line invites you aboard their brand-new, next-gen ship Prima and Katy Perry happens to be there, you pack your best outfit and go—no questions asked!
We set sail on August 13, 2022, and despite staying in an inside cabin, I slept like a baby wrapped in luxury cotton. The room? Surprisingly spacious, ultra-modern, and super comfortable. Think sleek Scandi vibes meets cruise chic.
Prima’s design leans minimalist—clean lines, soothing palettes, and intimate spaces that make a 3,099-passenger ship feel like your own private retreat. The Ocean Boulevard promenade is stunning, wrapping you in sea views while you sip your latte or cocktail.
The Heart of the Ship: Penrose Atrium & More
My first real “stop-you-in-your-tracks” moment? The Penrose Atrium. Spanning three decks, this stunner is the pulse of the ship and easily one of the most eye-catching spaces on board. Imagine modern architecture meets glam—sculptural gold accents, sweeping staircases, and sleek metallic finishes that reflect the ever-changing light as the day rolls on. It’s like walking through a luxury fashion magazine shoot.
But it’s not just a pretty place. This is where everything’s happening. Whether you’re grabbing a latte from Starbucks, browsing high-end boutiques, or just soaking in the ambience from one of the stylish loungers, it feels alive. There’s usually live music drifting from the piano, people mingling over cocktails, and a constant hum of excitement. It’s the kind of place where you linger—not because you have to, but because you want to.
It perfectly sets the tone for Norwegian Prima: bold, modern, social, and effortlessly cool.
Dining: Freestyle, Global, and Very, Very Good
Prima runs on Norwegian’s Freestyle Cruising model, meaning you can dine where and when you want. It’s all about flexibility and freedom. Just a heads-up: popular spots fill up fast, so if you’ve got your heart set on a particular restaurant, hop on the app and lock in those reservations early—it’ll make your experience even smoother.
There are two main dining rooms—Hudson’s and The Commodore Room—but let me rave about Hudson’s for a sec. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around the back of Deck 7, serving epic views with every bite. The daily menu doesn’t change, which is different, but the elegant design and vibe more than make up for it.
Then there’s the Indulge Food Hall; honestly, this might be my favourite dining concept onboard. You order from a tablet, and dishes from a wide variety of venues—noodles, tapas, Indian, BBQ, salads, gelato, and desserts—are delivered to your table as they’re ready. Great for indecisive eaters, foodies, or anyone who wants to sample the world in one sitting.
Speciality Dining? Yes, Please.
Norwegian Prima goes big here, but remember that most come with a fee, and they add up quickly. If you’re a foodie, grab a dining package. It’s the best way to sample some restaurants without worrying about your bill at the end of your cruise.
My top two picks?
- Onda by Scarpetta: Elegant, rustic Italian done right. Get the octopus. Get the lobster tagliatelle. Get the stromboli. just… get it.
- Cagney’s Steakhouse: Classic. Iconic. Filet mignon perfection with a wedge salad to die for. Worth every cent.
Want variety? Try:
- Nama Sushi (surprising twists)
- Le Bistro (French decadence)
- Hasuki (teppanyaki + show)
- Los Lobos (tableside guac? yes, please)
- Palomar (Mediterranean with seafood flair)
Entertainment: Disco Vibes & Rock Legends
The main event is “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical” at the Prima Theatre. It’s high energy, nostalgic, and seriously well-produced. After the show, the theatre transforms into a 70s disco party—so wear your dancing shoes!
Over at Syd Norman’s Pour House, the live music scene is electric—think legendary rock vibes, sing-along moments, and serious talent on stage. The Fleetwood Mac tribute is a standout, running through Rumours with all the heart and harmony you’d hope for. It’s intimate, high energy, and guaranteed to be a great night. Get there early—it fills up fast.
Playtime: Go-Karts, Slides & VR Galore
Prima is an adrenaline junkie’s playground. On the top decks, you’ll find:
- A three-level go-kart track (Prima Speedway)
- The Drop & The Rush (10-story dry slides – yes, TEN)
- The Wave (tidal waterslide)
- Mini-golf, darts, laser-tag viewing areas, and the VR-powered Galaxy Pavilion
Heads up: most of these come with an extra fee—mini-golf, go-karts, gaming—but they’re totally worth it if you’re into thrills.
Tip: Even if you’re not sliding or racing, grab a drink at The Local and watch the chaos unfold. It’s hilarious and wildly entertaining.
Ready to Experience Prima for Yourself?
Norwegian Prima is a stunner. She’s bold, modern, adventurous, and indulgent in all the right ways. There are some added fees that might catch you off guard (mini-golf, racing, etc.), but with a bit of planning, you can pick and choose what’s worth your splurge.
If you’re a fan of modern design, global cuisine, and innovative ship features, you will love this ship.
