Why can I not bring my iron?
Clothes irons and garment steamers are banned industry-wide as they are a fire hazard. If you attempt to bring one on board, it will be confiscated and returned to you at the end of your cruise.
What are my alternatives?
All cruise lines will offer laundry and pressing service for a fee, and some even provide a small self-service laundry. These laundry areas are the only places where passenger clothing irons are permitted as they have tiled floors, metal walls, and ceilings, so there is less fire risk than your stateroom.
Below are the cruise lines which provide self-serve laundry facilities onboard: –
- Azamara
- Carnival Cruise Lines
- Cunard
- Disney Cruise Line
- Fred Olsen
- Holland America Line
- Oceania Cruises
- P&O Cruises
- Princess Cruises
- Regent Seven Seas
- Saga
- Seabourn
- Silversea
TOP TIP – If your ship does not have a self-serve laundry, find out which night your formal evening is on as soon as you arrive and send your outfits to be pressed as quickly as possible to get them back on time as a lot of passengers will be doing the same!
Hacks to release the crease
The most common and easiest way to get rid of clothes’ creases is to use ‘the Bathroom method’. While it doesn’t leave your clothes looking crisp, this hack often works to ‘release’ any wrinkles.
You’ll need a bottle of Lenor Crease Release (you can get this in major supermarkets or online from Amazon). Then all you need to do is spray your clothes with the release spray and hang them in the bathroom after running the shower for a few minutes. A crucial step is to hold the item and gently tug it in each direction after spraying to ensure maximum effect.
Conclusion
Don’t stress if you have a few visible wrinkles during your cruise – everyone else is in the same boat (pun intended!). If your ship has self-serve laundry facilities onboard, that’s great, but if not, you can also send a few key items to be pressed or use my simple hack to help you look sharp onboard.
